Unlocking the power of solar lights

We empower communities through our climate projects with the power of clean technology.

Under our inaugural 2 Million Lights programme we have deployed over 700,000 solar lights in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia since November 2021. This has saved more than 500,000 families over $6 a monthNamene’s 2 Million Lights programme is on track to be completed by mid 2024, reaching many more families and communities in other low-income Sub-Saharan countries.

We distribute our lights in countries that have low electrification rates to ensure that beneficiaries of our 2 Million Lights programme receive the dual benefits of first-time access to solar energy and financial savings, while reducing or ending their reliance on fossil fuels.

Our low-cost, high-quality lights have quickly gained significant market shares in the pico lights market in Namibia (90%), Zambia (72%) and Zimbabwe (83%) over the relatively short time of their distribution – showing that trust in the durability of the product, as well as affordability made possible through our carbon subsidy model, are key to unlocking clean technology for those who need it the most. “When the solar lights are on at night, it feels like a town, not a village. Now we use the power of the sun for lighting and we no longer need to spend on expensive candles and kerosene.”
