Namene at Paris Peace Forum
On the 10th and 11th November, Paris will be bustling with world leaders and heads of international organisations coming together to celebrate some of the world’s leading initiatives to secure peace and improve global governance. We’re thrilled that Namene will be joining them, having been selected as a showcased project in the Space for Solutions at the Paris Peace Forum.
What is the Paris Peace Forum?
The Paris Peace Forum was founded to help tackle some of the world’s biggest issues. The Forum brings together all stakeholders to advance concrete solutions and champion innovation. As a collaborative multi-stakeholder event, the PPF gathers actors of global governance like states and international organisations, but also NGOs and purpose-led companies.
Why has Namene been selected?
The Paris Peace Forum is project-oriented. It showcases and supports concrete projects across law, standards, and good practices or capacity-building through new institutions, mechanisms, and innovation.
Namene has been selected for our carbon projects, which are designed to maximise positive social and environmental impact, while being underpinned by the principles of transparency and accurate reporting.
Our solar-powered lights eliminate carbon emissions and toxic fumes by replacing kerosene lamps and candles. The avoided emissions are certified as carbon credits, which we then sell to discount our solar lights and make them affordable for those who need them most, starting with low-income, off-grid families.
Energy security is a cornerstone of a peaceful and thriving society, and affords people access to the most fundamental and vital services like lighting.
Namene is committed to ensuring our carbon credits avoid harmful emissions and help off-grid communities take their first step on the clean energy ladder, as well as improving the credibility and trustworthiness of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM).
Premium carbon credits for a trustworthy VCM
Namene carbon credits are premium, high-quality VERs that are backed by robust data monitoring tools and benchmarked against rigorous standards.
We certify our carbon credits through Gold Standard for the Global Goals, a not-for-profit organisation that sets the highest requirements and standards currently available on the voluntary carbon market (VCM).
Gold Standard develops robust, science-based methodologies and standards to certify carbon credits or VERs, working closely with project developers like Namene, the local communities impacted, and the third party validation and verification bodies (VVBs) who independently audit the claims associated with the projects.
Our work to provide safe and sustainable products that replace carbon-emitting alternatives, enhances the lives and livelihoods of millions of people in a growing number of countries in the Global South.
