GENESIS ENERGY GROUP support Kilimanjaro Trek4Mandela with Namene solar lights
Namene solar lights empower families and communities in off-grid and remote regions across sub-Saharan Africa every day. But few locations are as remote as the summit of Kilimanjaro, where our solar lights were used to light the way for the annual charity Trek4Mandela.
Energy infrastructure development and asset management company GENESIS ENERGY GROUP partnered with the Imbumba Foundation, to help light up the trek to the peak of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on 18 July, with a generous donation of Namene solar lights.
The annual trek was founded by the Imbumba Foundation and endorsed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation. It embodies the essence of Mandela’s vision for Africa: unity, resilience and the pursuit of a better future for the continent.
GENESIS ENERGY GROUP donated boxes of Namene SM200 solar lights to support the trek. Moreover, this not only provided vital lighting for the team, but also to helped promote sustainability and clean energy.
Ian Mills, Head of Sales and Partnerships at Namene said:
“Namene believes in business as a force for good, and we’re proud to see GENESIS ENERGY GROUP put this into action through their support of this charitable cause. We know firsthand the life-changing impacts that clean technology has on communities without access to electricity. So we’re delighted to support GENESIS ENERGY GROUP in their Corporate Social Responsibility strategy as they strive to support communities with innovative energy solutions.”
“I was immediately impressed by the potential and impact of the solar lights,” said Babalwa Bungane, GENESIS ENERGY GROUP’s Head of Communications and Marketing. “We were very happy to have purchased the solar lights from Namene as their mission aligns closely with GENESIS ENERGY GROUP’s own values and fundamental principles of power, people and progress. The lights were perfect for the Trek4Mandela because they are powered by the sun, while also being very tough and practical – they can be worn on the trekkers heads with the head strap.”
GENESIS ENERGY GROUP purchased 250 solar lights from Namene. A number of which were donated to the trekkers, who completed their climb in four days, to reach the peak of Africa’s highest peak standing at 5,895 metres. It took them a further two days to descend.
GENESIS ENERGY GROUP and the Imbumba Foundation will donate the remaining 200 lights to projects to local communities. With the help of strategic partners they will deliver positive environmental and social impact.
“Working with the Imbumba Foundation is one of the many ways GENESIS ENERGY GROUP creates meaningful impact in education, healthcare and local communities. As a trailblazer in the energy sector, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on the continent by supporting human development programs that drive socio-economic growth.” said Babalwa.
“Partnering with Namene to light up his year’s trek was another way for us to champion the continent’s potential by bringing together the endurance of its people and the power of its natural assets, starting with the sun.”
